The Odd Couple by Coronado Playhouse
This Hilarious comedy written by Neil Simon and Directed by Keith Anderson is truly very entertaining. The entire cast does a fantastic job, their clever expressions add to the hilarity of the production. Showing in the new Theatre off Stand way this is a real treat if you have not been there, it is fabulous, with seating around all the tables and the lovely setting on the bay.
The Odd Couple will keep you in fits of laughter as Felix (Bob Mutch), a neurotic, cooking, cleaning type soon to be divorced, almost suicidal moves in with his poker buddy, a slob bachelor, Oscar (John Briders) who is a laid back fun loving kind of guy. Soon the weekly poker games become ruined due to Felix’s obsessive behavior of meticulous cleaning and watching for any type of mess during the game. Things get even more hilarious when the Pigeon sisters bump into Oscar on the elevator in their apartment complex and they come over for a dinner that Felix has prepared .The dinner becomes ruined due to a timing problem and the evenings events become even more amusing .The sisters are truly marvelous, with English accents that are so well done , they are truly funny. Being polite in the English way but actually not meaning a word they say at times, with clever nuances at the evenings possible coarse of events. The shows comical lines and reflection on divorcees living together and dating besides a group of guys trying to play poker once a week really has the audience smiling as this light and amusing comedy unfolds. The play tackles issues other than the battle of the clean and the slovenly. At the heart of The Odd Couple is whether or not a person can change and whether two people can live in harmony with each other! The set and costumes are all complimentary of the poker game evenings and the dinner plans with the Pigeon sisters, great job overall. Keith Anderson directs yet another clever script, the show is a real fun production with a barrel of laughs. By Sylvia Bendelstein J*Company Youth Theatre Runs April 2- May 28, 2006.
