Review

The legendary Frank Sinatra recorded more than 1,300 songs, 56 of which are used in this musical revue sung mostly in medleys by two men and two women in the setting of a classy 1940s night club with a three-piece band behind them. Anecdotes from his life and career are slipped in here and there. Memorable songs include All of Me, I Only Have Eyes for You, I’ve Got You Under My Skin, The Way You Look Tonight, Makin’ Whoopee, and Strangers in the Night.

The quartet is composed of four very talented singers, often singing the song in tandem or broken off in duets, with a few solos as well. Kevin Earley nails New York, New York as well as the more tender Young at Heart and the ballad Fly Me to the Moon. He’s also joined my Tami Tappan Damiano in one of the great duets, I Love You. Damon Kirsche shines in the sultry Witchcraft. Katy Blake adds some humor with her personality and sings the classic I’ll Be Seeing You. The four of them deliver an amusingly despondent rendition of Love and Marriage.

Some of the medleys are arranged around themes. Big cities (Chicago, I Love Paris, NY,NY). Broadway tunes (I Get a Kick Out of You, My Funny Valentine). Songs about the moon (Moonlight Serenade, Fly Me to the Moon, I’ll Be Seeing You).

The relatively brief revue, about ninety minutes with no intermission, ends on a poignant but powerful note, the actors reminiscing about the day Frank Sinatra died, and sending him off with a beautiful singing of how he lived his life, My Way. In the end, a relaxing and enjoyable musical revue that Frank Sinatra fans are almost sure to enjoy.

Performs through November 12, 2006.
