How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2001) by The Globe Theatres
How lucky we are here in San Diego, our home, to be host to the Whos and the Grinch and his pooch with the horns (well, antlers). Nearly the entire cast of years past have returned to us fans to again teach us the meaning of Christmas as only the Grinch and the Whos can. John Lee Beatty's magical Who-sets seem just like the book Right down to the teensiest, tiniest nook. And his charming Who Chorale chorus of dancing and singing puppets inflates the hearts of the audience in their seats and that of the Grinch way up on Mount Crumpet. Eye-popping Who-costumes by imaginative Robert Morgan creates Whos of all shapes and Whos of all sizes, and are clearly deserving of all sorts of cool prizes. Guy Paul is the Grinch, that big bad guy in green who is such a devilish delight in each and every scene. His rousing solo is truly One of a Kind. How grateful we are to have such a great find! And returning as our heroine, the brave Cindy-Lou, is the darling Mary Frances McClay, yet another casting coup, Whose preciously sweet voice is even more than last year a reason for rejoice. If not her you'll see Arianna Afsar filling the role. She'll be great, I just know. Saw her last year in Starlight's South Pacific, and she put on an amazing show. And then there's Mama Who With Melinda Gilb again in the offing Who leads the Adult Whos In some hilarious Last Minute Shopping. From the Adult Whos came the Little Whos Just how, I'm not quite certain. But without their dancing and singing and playing The show would most surely be a-hurtin'. And finally there's Max, The Young Max and the Old, For it's through their big puppy eyes That this heartwarming tale is told. Thanks to the Globe And to the cast and the crew. And thanks especially to each child's favorite writer, Our dearest Dr. Seuss! Rob Hopper San Diego Playbill ~ Cast ~
