Join Scripps Ranch Theatre as
we launch "Inspecting Carol"
This hilarious holiday special starts
November 10 and runs until December 9
Its 2006 and the Soapbox Theater is trying to rehearse on its 18th holiday production of Christmas Carol. This theatrical troupe is
about to go belly-up and for good reason: It's your typical small theater band of personalities and the inmates have been running the
asylum. If some unknown inspector from the NEA doesn't give them their grant, they are going to have to close their doors. They know
it is their last chance and are on the lookout for the undercover inspector. Of course, a
wanna-be, gawdawful actor gets mistaken for the inspector and ends up cast in the arguably worst production of
all time. Things very literally fall apart at the seams as the troupe tries valiantly to pull off a wildly different version of the classic
and save the day. It is "A Christmas Carol" meets "Noises
Off" meets "Waiting for Guffman".
This is a truly hilarious show that is an actor's favorite collection of dream roles. The show is directed and produced by SRT veterans and
features many well-known and oft seen local talents. The cast features Michele Guisti as the Artistic Director of the Soapbox. The
General Manager is played by Jerry Monroe, Kaly McKenna plays the Stage Manager and the company is played by Jim Caputo, Darlene
Cleary, Kirk Irvine, Dave Hibler, Danny Herrera, and Michael Hubbard. The fabulously bad actor is portrayed by Ken Gray and the real
inspector is done by Jamie Haire.
According to Director Gil Savage, "The play was developed by the Seattle Repertory Company, and is based upon the original company's
own theatrical experiences as material." The title and main concept was taken from Russian author Nikolai Gogol's 1836 one act play, The
Inspector General, in which a dim-witted clerk is mistaken for a visiting government authority.
"This is a painful show - because your sides will ache from laughing so hard," said producer Barbara Barber. "This will be one our
funniest holiday shows ever."
The production crew includes Rafe Gandola as Assistant Director, Bobbie Karpinski as Stage Manager and Greg Townsend as Lighting
Designer. Sound Designer and Sound Operator is Michael Richards. Charlie Riendeau is handling photography. Rosemary King
is working as Scenic Artist, Gloria LaGasse is Props Manager and Jim Caputo is the Set Designer.
All performances are held in the theater on the campus of Alliant International University (formerly United States International
University) at 10455 Pomerado Road in Scripps Ranch, one-half mile east of the I-15/Miramar-Pomerado Road exit.
Individual show prices are $18.00; $16.00 for Seniors, active military and students. For kid appropriate productions, child
