Adriana Sevan's compelling TAKING FLIGHT; March 15 - April 1, 2007

Opening Night is SUNDAY, MARCH 18 at 7PM At the LYCEUM SPACE THEATRE

The REP Season will close with Adriana Sevan’s extraordinary TAKING FLIGHT; directed by Giovanni Sardelli.  TAKING FLIGHT, developed at the 2005 Sundance Theatre Lab, received its World Premiere in May 2006 produced by Center Theatre Group in LA at The Kirk Douglas Theatre. It was recorded live for NPR in January ’07 for LA Theatre Works.  Performances begin Thursday, March 15; with Opening Night on Sunday, March 18; in a limited run through April 1 in the Lyceum Space Theatre in downtown San Diego .  The creative staff includes Victoria Petrovich (Scenic Design), Jose Lopez (Lighting Design), Michael Phalen (Sound Design), and Chelsea Kashin (Stage Manager).

TAKING FLIGHT is a deeply compelling, truly funny and sexy tale that celebrates the life force, through stunning encounters with healers, shamans and women who care.  Adriana is a Dominican- Armenian New Yorker turned Californian with an amazing story to tell.  Adriana was all set to play maid of honor for her best friend, when Rhonda was caught beneath the Twin Towers on September 11 and emerged barely alive. What could Adriana do?  The answer is this extraordinary story about finding the goddess within, while dedicating her life to saving her best friend.  Adriana shows us how one woman's love can make a giant difference in our post - 9-11 world.  Laugh, cry and cheer with Adriana as she discovers why the heart is the strongest muscle in the body.  The Daily News extolled the “Brave lady…..brave tale….brave performance” and Backstage.com raved about “An enthralling and uplifting celebration of life from a remarkable actor and storyteller.”

As an actor, Adriana Sevan was last seen in The Caucasian Chalk Circle and The Clean House (at South Coast Rep); Our Lady Of 121 St. (LA Theater Works), Anna in the Tropics (South Coast Rep, Coconut Grove, LATW), Two Sisters and a Piano (Public, South Coast Rep), The Odyssey (Willow Cabin), Indian Ink (ACT), Another Part of the House (CSC), Henry V (Shakespeare & Co.) and Macbeth (HERE). She guest-starred on “Law & Order,” “Sex & the City,” “Deadline” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”; and won an award at Denver International Film Festival in Patrice Johnson’s critically acclaimed debut film, King’s County. Ms. Sevan first performed her writing at the 2002 New Works Lab at Intar, in a short piece, Flight, directed and co-conceived with Giovanna Sardelli. Her work has been developed at Sundance Theater Lab, South Coast Rep, Mark Taper Forum, Rio Hondo College and The Lark. Ms. Sevan is collecting family stories of her Armenian ancestors for her next play.
