PowPAC Expands “Hot Flashes”

Staged Reading To Three Days;

Opens Mother’s Day, May 13

        PowPAC, Poway’s Community Theatre, has expanded its highly popular staged readings of “Hot Flashes,” to three days to meet an anticipated demand for tickets. Last year, the show sold out its two performances.

      “Hot Flashes, is a hilarious, sometimes poignant, look at a woman’s life when her childbearing days are over and she enters the world of menopause.  Performances are at 7 p.m. on Mother’s Day (May 13) and the following evenings, Monday,  May 14 and Tuesday, May 15..

     This special event features a large cast of outstanding San Diego actors and speaks specifically to women of a certain age, said Director Robert Hitchcox, a veteran San Diego director and reviewer. “Last year we were pleased, but not surprised, that a large number of men were in the audience and thoroughly enjoyed the show.” Debbie David is producer.

       “Hot Flashes” has been striking responsive chords with members of both sexes and a wide range of ages in our general audience,” he said. “Funny and insightful, wildly hilarious and poignant, broadly comic and poetic, it breaks new ground in present issues about menopause and aging.  These have only recently begun to be discussed, and also provides the theatrical excitement of well-crafted scenes, full of heart and humor."

     Hitchcox said that in addition to providing outstanding entertainment, “Hot Flashes” offers an opportunity to see some of San Diego finest actors on the same stage at the same time. The cast includes Judy Carlstrom, Loretta Haas, Kathy Hardman,

Jane Harris, Eileen Ivey, Arlene Kosakoff, Brenda Leake, renee levine, Fran Marsh, Maria Schneider and Connie Terwilliger.

     “We have assembled a mature, very talented cast that we are confident will provide a wonderful cap to Mother’s Day, or, in some cases, a great two days after,” Hitchcox said.

“This is a play that provides a lot of laughs and insight into women facing a different stage of life. It has proved popular with men and women.”
