Lucille Fletcher’s Suspense-Thriller.
"Night Watch" Scheduled for
PowPAC Jan. 19-Feb. 11

Photo by Tony Eisenhower Lucille Fletcher’s “Night Watch,” a suspense thriller with a 1950s film noir look, will be performed at PowPAC, Poway’s Community Theatre, Jan. 19 through Feb. 11 at the PowPAC theater. 13250 Poway Road, upstairs in “The Lively Center.”
“This is a show that has proved extremely popular, along with other Lucille Fletcher plays,” Director Sherrie Colbourn said. Fletcher wrote radio scripts (Sorry, Wrong Number; Blindfold) for such luminaries as Orson Welles, Agnes Moorehead and Vincent Price. Her plays were adapted for movies that starred screen legends such as Rock Hudson, Barbara Stanwyck and Cary Grant.

Colbourn said serious actors and producers have been attracted by her well-crafted plots, interesting characters and clever dialogue. “I have set the play in 1952 and have decided to do the play film noir in style. The play lends itself to film noir beautifully. It has proved an interesting challenge to all the designers.”

The PowPAC cast includes: Carolyn Wheat Koenig, Christopher Armour, Jamie Haire, Raylene Wall, Kate Hewitt, Rob Tyler and Doug Frank.

Night Watch is set in Manhattan, where a troubled Elaine Wheeler believes she has seen a dead man sitting in an empty chair in the apartment across the way. Her husband John calls the police, but the police find only an empty chair. Moments after the police leave, Elaine sees a dead woman in the chair. This time, skeptical police shrug it off. As the play continues, it's obvious that Elaine isn't the only one who sees things that might or might not be based in reality. That includes her best friend, Blanche, and her nosy maid, Helga. The plot thickens; the tempo picks up, and the action moves toward its chilling end.
