MO`OLELO
PERFORMING ARTS COMPANY
ANNOUNCES
2007 SEASON
World
premiere of The
Adoption Project: Triad an
original play by Kimber Lee
March
14 - April 1, 2007: Centro
Cultural de la Raza,
Fall
2007, Diversionary Theatre,
San
Diego
Mo`olelo's
first production of 2007 will be Kimber Lee’s The
Adoption Project: Triad, a story portraying three women’s voyages to
find the missing pieces in their lives. Incorporating humor, fantasy and the
author’s unique voice, The Adoption
Project: Triad challenges traditional playwriting boundaries by layering
music, movement and text, by shifting perspectives and blending reality with
fantasy. Both literal and figurative mosaics of experience are created on
stage through the characters tangled stories of adoption, and their painful
unraveling. After the
performance, the audience will be given the opportunity to mirror this journey
and reflect upon their own experiences by participating in a community art
installation project curated by the scenic designer of the show, Jodi Tucci
Brisebois.
The
Fall production of Cowboy
Versus Samurai is a modern, Asian-American retelling of the Cyrano de
Bergerac story. Shortly to be published in the ubiquitous anthology by Smith
& Kraus, New Playwrights: The Best Plays of 2006, this remarkable
play by Michael Golamco is savagely funny and moving. Deepening Mo`olelo’s
commitment to engaging youth in theater, this production will be offered not
only to the general public, but also to high school students through
Mo`olelo’s ongoing partnership with Young Audiences of San Diego.
According
to Artistic Director, Seema Sueko, “Both plays are by emerging
Asian-American playwrights and address issues of culture and identity, loss
and love, and the search for home. Both plays offer
