Lamb's Players Theatre: American Rhythm Returns to the Lyceum

Lamb's Players Theatre brings back "The Musical Revue of the 20th Century" starting July 13

The tremendous audience response to last summer's American Rhythm has prompted Lamb's Players Theatre to bring the popular musical back to the Lyceum Theatre this summer. American Rhythm will run in a limited engagement, opening July 13 with a definite close date of September 2.

The success of American Rhythm in 2000 surpassed even Producing Artistic Director Robert Smyth's expectations. Smyth says, "It was a huge undertaking for the theatre and we've been so thrilled at the response. The show played to packed houses and standing ovations at every performance. It could have played a lot longer if we'd had the space for it, so we're excited to be able to bring it back this summer."

American Rhythm soars through the best of 20th Century music, touching down on favorite beats from Tin Pan Alley, the Roaring 20s, Big Band, Swing, 50's malt-shop, Rhythm and Blues, Gospel, Folk, Country, Rock and Roll, Hip Hop and beyond. American Rhythm is an unforgettable trip through the greatest music of the last hundred years, featuring ten powerhouse performers and a roof-raising band.

American Rhythm was created by Kerry Meads and Vanda Eggington, the team who wrote the hit musical revue Boomers. In fact, this summer is shaping up to be a "Meads-Eggington" summer at Lamb's Players Theatre with productions of both musical hits written by the team. Boomers will play through July 29 at the resident theatre in Coronado, and American Rhythm through September 2 at the Lyceum Theatre in Horton Plaza.

On Meads and Eggington's collaboration, Robert Smyth comments: "Kerry and Vanda both have a natural savvy for communicating directly to an audience. After Boomers explored recent decades, we got to thinking about another production that would cover this past incredible century. The toughest thing about a century of music is deciding what to leave out. What they've accomplished with American Rhythm is really quite remarkable."

American Rhythm will feature Victor Alonso, Moriah Angeline, Sandy Campbell, Michael Dalager, Shirley Giltner, Tracy Hughes, Leviticus, Lee Ann Payne, Chris Reber, and Tom Stephenson. The production staff will again be headed by the show's creators: director Kerry Meads, musical director Vanda Eggington, and choreographer Pamela Turner. Scenic and Lighting Design is by Mike Buckley, Costume Design by Jeanne Reith Waterman, Sound Design by Greg Campbell, and Props by Chrissy Vögele. Don LeMaster will lead a roof-raising band featuring Dave Chamberlain, Lee Elderton, Russ Mitchell, Rik Ogden, Dave Rumley, and Oliver Shirley.

Performances of American Rhythm are Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 4:30 and 8:00 p.m., and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are $19 - $39 and are available by calling the Lamb's Players Theatre Box Office at (619) 437-0600 or by visiting the Lamb's Players website at www.lambsplayers.org. For group ticket information call Brian Andrews at (619) 437-6050 ext. 21. Discounts are available to groups, seniors, students and active duty military.

American Rhythm will feature a special half-price youth discount for children ages 5-17.
