An American Christmas Plays

December 15—29 at the Hotel del Coronado

Lamb’s Players Theatre Teams Up with Hotel Del to Present Acclaimed Turn-of-the-Century Feast and Celebration;

Many Performances Already Sold Out

Preparations are currently under way for Lamb’s Players’ annual production of An American Christmas at the Hotel del Coronado.  With many performances historically selling out long in advance, An American Christmas has joined Lamb’s Players Festival of Christmas as a San Diego holiday tradition.

An American Christmas is a remarkable three-hour event that takes place in the hotel’s beautiful Grand Ballroom.  The year is 1902, and as you enter the ballroom, 24 versatile performers take you back to the turn of the century for a festive family celebration.  It’s an unforgettable evening filled with story, song, dance, and laughter – all woven around a five-course gourmet meal.

Many patrons who return from year to year perhaps think of the unique evening as their own “best-kept-secret,” but the secret is getting out.  San Diego Magazine calls the evening “a perfect melding of food, ambience and showmanship.” The Los Angeles Times says “The Lamb’s Players succeed in transforming the ballroom into a home and the audience into guests.”  And Westways Magazine notes that as the evening ends, “hearts as well as stomachs are full, and the guests leave with all of their yuletide yearnings satisfied.”

Tickets to An American Christmas are $96 — $130 for adults and $64 — $94 for children aged 5—12.  The all-inclusive ticket also includes champagne toast, parking, tax, and gratuity.  The doors to the Grand Ballroom open each night at 6:30 p.m.  (There is no performance Christmas Day.)  Seating is at round tables of eight.  The attire is festive, with jackets suggested for men.

From the lavishly decorated Christmas tree at the Hotel del Coronado to the festive shops along Orange Avenue, Coronado is a feast for the eyes during the holidays.  Lamb’s Players Theatre is proud to be a cherished part of this very special community’s celebration.

For two days only, December 21 and 22, Lamb’s Players will present matinee performances of Aunt Agatha’s Christmas Tea at 1:00 p.m.  Aunt Agatha’s Christmas Tea is a shorter version of An American Christmas featuring a three-course luncheon hosted by the irrepressible Aunt Agatha.  Enjoyed by the entire family, Aunt Agatha’s Christmas Tea has a special focus for children.  Tickets for Aunt Agatha’s Christmas Tea are $74 for adults and $42 for children aged 5-12.  All performances will be held in the Hotel del Coronado’s Grand Ballroom.

Finishing up Lamb’s Players’ year on its resident stage is the annual Lamb’s Players Festival of Christmas, which plays December 3—29.  Thousands of Southern California families have made Festival of Christmas an annual tradition since it began in 1978.  This year we present a brand-new script by playwright Kerry Meads. A poet, a preacher, an entrepreneur, and a wayfaring stranger unwittingly become neighbors in the midst of a downtown redevelopment.  Although the holidays are approaching, there is not peace on the block.  A delightful story of romance and reconciliation, filled with music of the season.
