Cygnet Theatre Announces 2007/08 Season

Cygnet Theatre is thrilled to be announcing the schedule for their upcoming 5th season. Over the past four seasons, Cygnet is proud to have been honored with numerous Patté Awards, such as Outstanding Productions for Bed and Sofa, The Little Foxes and My Fair Lady, to name a few. Also Cygnet has received countless Critic's Circle Awards, including Sean Murray as Producer of the Year, not to mention numerous actor and designer awards as well. Through the years Cygnet's goal has been to provide patrons with an eclectic mix of plays that examine and dissect the human experience. Cygnet Theatre's fifth season proves no different.

The new season at Cygnet Theatre is a diverse mixture of premieres, contemporary and American classics.

Cygnet Theatre's 2007-08 Season

Arcadia by Tom Stoppard
June 21st through July 29th
Directed by Sean Murray.
This show is "Pure entertainment for the heart, mind and soul." (New York Post) Brilliantly moving smoothly between the centuries, 1809 and the present, Arcadia explores the nature of truth and time, the difference between the classical and romantic temperaments, and the disruptive influence of sex on our life. Starring award-winning actors Rosina Reynolds and Jim Chovick from Copenhagen and Glynn Bedington from The Little Foxes.

Communicating Doors by Alan Ayckbourn
August 16th through September 23rd.
This is an intricate time traveling comic thriller about a London sex specialist from the future who stumbles into a murder plot that sends her, compliments of a unique set of doors, traveling back in time to save herself and possibly alter the future! "This is a show to see." (New York Post) San Diego Premiere

The Turn of the Screw adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher based on the novel by Henry James.
October 4th through November 11th.
Based on the provocative tale of suspense, horror and repressed sexuality, this adaptation gives the famous story yet another turn of its own. A young governess journeys to care for two recently orphaned children whom are haunted by their former governess and the sadistic valet. The young heroine is left to wonder, are the ghosts real or are they the products of her own fevered imagination? San Diego Premiere

Fences by August Wilson
January 17th through February 24th.
Directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg.
Our staged reading of Fences was very well received during our August Wilson series and now we present an opportunity to see this powerful piece as a fully mounted production. This production stars Antonio TJ Johnson and Sylvia M'Lafi Thompson and includes much of the same powerful cast from the staged reading in this Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning drama. Troy Maxson sees the world as composed mostly of fences which enclose him, but he does not realize that all the fences in his life are societal and that he is fencing in his family.

A Little Night Music Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by Hugh Wheeler.
March 13th through May 4th.
Directed by Sean Murray.
One of Broadway's seldom produced masterpieces, A Little Night Music, is sophisticated, literate, and stylish, but also disarmingly warm, funny, charming and very human. Stephen Sondheim's most romantic and achingly beautiful score is written entirely in Ravel-inspired variations on the waltz and includes Sondheim's most popular song to date, the haunting "Send in the Clowns."

A Number by Caryl Churchill.
May 22nd through June 29th.
Directed by Esther Emery.
Human cloning is the subject of this beguiling psychological thriller that blends topical scientific speculation with a stunning portrait of the relationship between fathers and their sons. "What a tremendous play this is, moving, thought-provoking and dramatically thrilling." (Daily Telegraph) San Diego Premiere

In addition to this great Season, Cygnet is offering two additional shows!

St. Nicholas by Conor McPherson.
October 15th through November 10th.
Award-winning San Diego favorite, Ron Choularton appears in this haunted, and fascinating one man show that is "a compelling and original piece of drama." (Daily Telegraph) An aging, jaded theatre critic recounts his obsession with a young actress, and how that obsession leads to a journey into a macabre world of London vampires from which he almost doesn't escape.

It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play adapted for the stage by Joe Landry.
November 23rd through December 30th.
Directed by Sean Murray.
Called the only "must-see" holiday play of the 2006 season, It's a Wonderful Life returns to Cygnet with the same magical cast and once again features KPBS Patte award-winning Foley sound artist Scott Paulson! This is a holiday tradition you will want to share with the whole family. So if you missed it last year, don't miss this opportunity to see what brought audiences to tears of joy and cheering on their feet!
