Classic Bernstein Brings Life to East County
El Cajon- CCT Musical Theater is proud to present West Side Story July 12 through July 28 at the East County Performing Arts Center in El Cajon. This critically acclaimed musical, directed by Susan DeLeon, is loosely based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and explores the enmity between two rival gangs of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. DeLeon, who just closed a successful run of “Baby” at the North Coast Reperatory Theater wanted to keep the show close to the movie version. West Side Story was recently voted one of the top 100 films of all time. With choreography inspired by Jerome Robins and the powerful, passionate music of Leonard Bernstein, West Side Story promises to be an event not to be missed. Songs include Something’s Coming, Maria, Tonight, I Feel Pretty, Officer Krupke, and One Hand, One Heart. West Side Story is part of the 2007 CCT season of shows, including the upcoming South Pacific (August 22- September 2)and Annie Warbucks (October 4-14) at The East County Performing Arts Center. South Pacific and the annual benefit Showplace of the Arts (August 28) will both be on the Midway Aircraft Carrier, a new and exciting venue for CCT. Ttickets for all productions are on sale now.
