Slut
was developed by Far Fetched productions for HBO’s
Com
edy Workshop and went on to be a top selling show in the Fringe of Toronto where
EYE Magazine gave the show four stars and said it “delicately balances humor
with an urgent questioning of gender and moral codes in a hypocritical society
– and delivers amply on both counts.” Slut was produced at
Los Angeles
’ prestigious Edgefest before being invited to perform as a late night show
here at 6th@Penn.
Matilda
has been trying to take control of her life and sexuality ever since the end of
a relationship in which she “lost herself.” She thought she was doing
a pretty good job of it until she landed herself in jail for being a slut.
Arrested for prostitution, the police begin to investigate Matilda’s life and,
suddenly conscious of the scrutiny of her neighbors, family, friends and lovers,
she is forced to review her choices.
Susan
Hammons
, well known to
San Diego
audiences for her strong, endearing presence, top-notch voice, and versatility
as a performer, stars in the title role. About Hammons' skill and
versatility, The Escondido Times Advocate said she "switches easily from
anger to love, arrogance to tenderness, desperation to hope.” In Slut,
Hammons will also share her mischievous sense of humor as seen in But
Can He Dance?”at the Asian American Repertory, in the role that Pat
Launer of KPBS described as "a nifty dominatrix." No
stranger to carrying a show,
Hammons wrote and performed her own one-woman play, Contemplating
the Bag, which Pat Launer of KPBS described as “powerful and very
well acted.” A graduate of San Diego State University’s M.F.A. program
in Musical Theatre, Hammons' performance in Ten
Percent Revue was described as "bright, eclectic and
cheery" by the Gay & Lesbian Times. She has appeared in numerous
other shows including the Lamb's Players' Tarantara!
Tarantara and Diversionary's Falsettos
which was nominated for a Robbie for outstanding ensemble. susanhammons.com

San Diego
, which she describes as “my Shangri-La.” McFarlane wrote and directed
7 successful plays in a row in her hometown of
Toronto
. The Globe and
Mail
,
Canada

writer/directors around these days.” There, she developed a reputation
as the go-to director for new plays and continued this trend in Los Angeles
where she directed The
Pig and I by South African playwright Evelyn Tollman, which was
described in LA Weekly as a “sprightly fable of insecurity and acceptance
[which] benefits greatly from director
Brenda McFarlane
’s blithe and trim staging.” farfetchedproductions.com
